The Flexibility Engineer

About Me

Rami El Geneidy

Energy Engineer, Practical Sophist, PhD Student, Finnish International.

Bio

I started building my career within energy and engineering under wings of Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland where I spent six years studying and working. But I do still call Turku my home. Since 2017 I have had the opportunity to work in Loughborough University towards a PhD on energy flexibility of buildings.

I aspire for entrepreneurial approaches and see myself as a problem-solver. I try to be practical, bold and explorative with whatever I do. This means that I am a tinkerer aiming to constantly improve by getting being exposed and subject to feedback.

Previous Experience

PhD Student

10/2017- London-Loughborough Centre for Doctoral Training in Energy Demand

I am currently a part of a doctoral programme on energy demand in the built environment run by Loughborough University and University College London. I study how buildings could become more flexible consumers of energy by using control and automation strategies of heating and ventilation systems for delivering demand response. My work involves the use of computational techniques such as simulation and machine learning combined with experimental work in real buildings.

Junior Sales Manager

10/2016-9/2017 Nordex Acciona Windpower

I worked as a Junior Sales Manager in a team responsible for sales in the Nordic and Baltic area. My tasks included driving sales projects both internally and with customers and working with market analysis in order to provide information to higher management about the state of the market to identify possible opportunities and threats. I was also involved in the strategic Cost of Energy program where I was a member of a team responsible for commercial term and product development. I worked in Nordex also when I was a student from 2013 until 2015.

Analyst Intern

8/2016-9/2016 Magenta Advisory Oy, a BearingPoint company

I did a brief internship as an analyst in Magenta Advisory where I was working as a member of a management consulting team specialized in digital business consulting. I was involved in project work spanning over many domains and industries with focus on conducting different kinds of analysis. I was also responsible for the Finnish Digital Leaders -study, a study about the level of digitalization of Finnish companies.

Master’s Thesis Worker

1/2016-6/2016 Meyer Turku Oy / Aalto University

I did a research project for Meyer Turku as a master’s thesis worker. The topic was Improving energy efficiency in passenger ships by discrete-event simulation. My task was to develop a new simulation approach to explore and analyze novel energy efficiency concepts for passenger ships. I worked in the Sales and Project Planning department. My thesis work was awarded with an excellent grade and a reward scholarship.

Other

Hiking, climbing and weight-lifting are what I do to give my brain a break. I am also a fan of good music (jazz, techno and metal). My idea of a good night is food and drinks with company which I typically choose from one of the following: good literature, RaspberryPi-projects or no friends.

I currently volunteer as a STEM Ambassador in Loughborough Grammar School to help run an after-school Code Club.
